IBM / Network tools and automation

A team for
network automation.

Hands-on technical leadership for a global tire manufacturer, from monitoring architecture to custom integration.

A dedicated team, with hands-on leadership

IBM formed a dedicated Network Tools and Automation team around me, with two engineers reporting to me. We supported a global tire manufacturer. I led technical direction while remaining hands-on in architecture, integration and custom implementation, working directly with customer and IBM stakeholders on tooling and operational processes.

Connecting the operational picture

The work covered office and manufacturing networks, including network-connected industrial systems whose availability mattered to factory operations. I architected and integrated workflows around IBM Netcool/Tivoli: discovery and inventory, monitoring and events, configuration backup and compliance, alert enrichment and correlation, ticket automation and basic remediation.

I configured, integrated and automated these capabilities, adding custom tooling where the existing products or operational boundaries left a gap.

Reconcile the data within the constraint

One recurring problem was discovery and inventory data held behind two mutually isolated backend networks. Engineers reconciled it manually in spreadsheets, consuming several engineer-hours each day.

I designed and implemented a browser-side JavaScript integration that correlated the data in the available client environment. The approach worked within the network-isolation constraint without requiring a direct connection between the backends. It replaced the manual reconciliation workflow and returned that daily effort to the engineers.

Visibility beyond the network

I also operated and integrated Riverbed APM appliances receiving mirrored production traffic. This provided application-level performance visibility alongside the network-management work.

Recognition

I received an IBM service-excellence award during my time in the role.
